Premier Marine Insurance’s policies for yachts provide £3 million third-party liability cover for damage you may cause to any other property. General cover is also automatically provided for trips to Europe for up to 30 days, subject to meeting the insurer’s criteria.  Your policy will also cover your hull, including superstructure fittings, machinery and equipment; legal expenses and a 24-hour helpline. 

When you choose a higher level of cover, you have the option to add the extra features such as those indicated above and you can protect your No Claims Bonus if you have been insured for five years or more without a claim. You’ll also have the option to extend your policy further to include your choice of excess (from £100) to add racing risks cover and to extend your cruising range.

If your boat is damaged whilst in its permanent marina berth you will not be charged an excess and it won’t affect your No Claims Discount.  For Premier Berth Holders there are additional exclusive benefits – find out more below.

The following exclusions apply:
  • Wear and tear
  • Corrosion
  • Loss of value because of age and use
  • Loss of value to your yacht after it has been repaired
  • Loss or damage to masts, spars, sails and rigging whilst racing, unless previously agreed
  • Sails split by the wind or blown away whilst being set (unless attached spars are also damaged)
‘Europe’ in the context of our yacht insurances includes:
Albania, Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Eire, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Kosovo, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Republic of Macedonia, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal (excluding Azores), Romania, San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain (including coastal waters of Canaries, Madeira, and the Balearics), Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Vatican City

Q. Is my yacht covered whilst racing?
A. If you are a current Premier Marinas Berth Holder you have full racing risks cover for the ‘Round the Island Race’ that includes protection of your no claims bonus. For general racing risks cover and for customers who do not berth their boat with Premier, you can extend your policy to include insurance protection for masts, spars, sailing and rigging whilst you are racing.

Q. Am I covered for sailing single-handed?
A. Yes, but only during daylight hours and not when racing

Q. Is my yacht covered when stored ashore?
A. Yes, year-round full cover is provided.

Q. Is my yacht covered if I sail to France?
A. Normal cruising cover is limited to within UK coastal waters however, subject to meeting the insurer’s criteria you are covered for up to 30 days cruising in France. Beyond this and subject to your craft being suitable, we can extend your cruising range to meet your specific needs.

Q. I have a second home in Spain. Can I leave my yacht there all year round?
A. As long as you tell us and we approve the security arrangements, your boat will be covered – this would usually attract an increased premium.

Q. What's the policy excess?
A. You can choose the excess you want to meet your needs. Just ask us for details.

How to make a claim
Simply call us on 0344 770 1092 or email enquiries@premiermarineinsurance.co.uk we'll talk through the details of your claim and the next steps to guide you through the process to settlement. 

There are no claim forms to fill in, only a Statement of Fact form which is completed by your claim handler over the phone at the time of the notification of the claim. You'll then receive a completed form for your records via email.

In line with our service pledge, we will act within 24 hours of being notified of your claim and within five days if you provide us with new information on an existing claim. Most importantly, when your claim is settled we will ensure speedy payment by BACS straight in to your bank account or by CHAPS to the supplier.
